For this recent commission I was given the idea rather than the copy. It was interesting to have to make a cliche work.

Wigtown Book Festival

I was recently commissioned to produce the cover for this years Wigtown Book festival brochure. The theme was focusing on the idea of Wigtown as a destination. People travel from near and far to be at the festival. Here is a mock up of the final open cover design.

These are various rough versions. At first I focused too much on my own colour palette with not another thought or research into Wigtown as a place. Overall these were way too 'tropical'.

Further roughs, addressing the colour ways but also started to look at the difference between the elements being quite fragnented in a flat space or more of a full landscape image.

New York Times

Recent Editorial for The New York Times. The article was about solace in the digital age.

Below is a rough sketch for the idea that wasn't used. It tackles the more negative aspect of the article showing a man instagramming a plant whilst his wive is giving birth

Kaspersky Pure

Another little film for Kaspersky. They liked the last lot so much they asked for one more. This time they asked for the animation to have a more premium feel. That turned out to be adding a reflection.
Once again working with the lovely folks at Trunk, Nicol Scott animating, Ivan Arnold providing the music and Fonic adding the sound design.

Guardian Guide

Cover for this weekends Guardian Guide featuring french band Phoenix.

No.2 Records / Frankfurt

A while back I was commissioned to produce some illustrations for No.2 Records in Frankfurt. The rules where simple, it had to be black and white and incorporate the black circle of their logo to illustrate the title of well know songs.

Secret 7"

For the 2nd year running we have designed a series of one-off  7"sleeves for Secret 7" which are being sold in aid of Art Against Knives. Nas, Public Enemy, Elton John and Nick Drake are just some of the recording artists involved this year.

An exhibition of the sleeves at Mother, 10 Redchurch Street, London E2 7DD opens on the weekend of April 13/14th, 10am - 6pm. The following weekend (on Record Store Day) April 20th, they will be available to purchase through to close on Sunday.

The Private view on Thursday 11th April will see a special 'Heavy Pencil' event with djs and live art from Andrew Rae, Pete Fowler, Jim Stoten and more.
