This was a short while ago now, but I was invited by ReachOutRCA to work with a group of fantastic Surrey Square primary school children. The workshop was called The Constructed Body, with the idea of creating collages, costumes and abstracted bodies, moving back and forward between 2D and 3D.
Firstly, the pupils made some collages working onto photographs of themselves. We then spent a bit of time developing similar ideas in small 3D forms.
In the second session at the Hockney Gallery, Royal College of Art,
we worked with paper and pattern, and playing on a bigger scale.
The final exercise involved creating surprising body shapes and working into these silhouettes with various mixed media.
Some more here. Thanks to all the pupils and staff at the school as well as the amazing ReachOutRCA crew.
